Any women dirt bikers on here? A local store is having a big 40% off sale and I want to pick up a good pair of boots. I will mostly use these for dual sport riding on my XT225. I'd love any input on what are good brands and features to look for. Any tips for n00bs are welcome too.

Thanks in advance!

Yes yes...

We all know (I hope) that Norton is being revived.

But did you also know that they're bringing back the Wankel?

I am getting a lot of spam from a site called XTRM Sports Network. They appear to be some sort of forum / advertising / shopping thing. Their hook is that they are offering contingency money and sponsorships to motorcycle racers. The messages are addressed to username elizilla and the same email I use on all forums, which implies that I subscribed to this, though I can't remember doing so. I'm wondering if I was trying to sign up for a track day or something, and had to go through this site? Maybe I got phished in some minor way. Or maybe they just bought a set of accounts from some other moto forum?

Anyway, I'm not a racer, just an occasional casual track-day rider, so I'm not going to pull in any contingency prizes. And I am sick of the daily spams. But I cannot find any way to delete my account or shut off this email, and queries to their support go unanswered. Does anyone know of this outfit, and have any idea how to escape their mailing list?

If you don't know of them, be warned, they will spam you like crazy if they get your info, so don't give them your real email address! I did not include a link, because I don't want anyone here to treat it as a recommendation and fall into their clutches.

arrived in Goa a month ago after a long drive down from Manali Ladahk and Rajasthan.

Hitting the sunny, sandy, palm lined beaches of Goa was such a relief after a pretty exhausting ride.

i was really glad to be off the bike with no where to go and finally relax. Royal Enfield had sponsored a bike show at a beach village down the road so i went over to explore. rode the new 500 with fuel injection. nice power delivery and good brakes, strange riding position though.

Mostly UK related.

Since when can they give a parking ticket or photo ticket for parking a bike on the pavement (sidewalk for those in the USA)? I thought parking restrictions were governed by the Road Traffic Act, pavement (sidewalk) is not road. Anyone?

A female friend of mine asked the question wondering if she should go semi-auto or revolver for her first pistol.

Someone responded: "If I could have only one? I'd get the revolver just because of the dependability issues. Round misfires? Pull the hammer back manually and you get another one. If that happens at a bad time in a semi-auto, you're screwed.

I don't think awkward reloading is an issue...you should never need more than two or three shots." (she mentioned reloading a revolver because she has found that she shoots better left handed)

I really hopes she ignores that person.

OK, this is deeply and insanely stupid on so many levels, but it still interests me strangely for all that! It also scares and impresses me in equal measure!

I wonder how quick would it go with a decent aerodynamic fairing on?

Words nearly fail me.

A Federal Judge ruled today on a GCO case relating to police stopping individuals who are seen carrying a concealed firearm on MARTA Trains today. He ruled in favor of MARTA for the most part stating that it was legal and lawful for a police officer to stop and detain someone to confirm they were carrying a license allowing the concealed carry of a firearm.

In this case, the MARTA police more than stopped the individual, they in fact, stopped and detained them and harrassed them for more than a half an hour. Long after they confirmed the person had a State issued GFL (Georgia Firearms License) they still detained him. This goes beyond the scope of what the judge said is allowed and yet he ignores the facts as described in the decision.

What is disturbing about this, is that this case seems to fly in the face of US v Ubiles and State v Jones. In both cases the Supreme Courts of the US and of Georgia (respectively) determined that an officer must witness some illegal activity and that carrying of a firearm (a lawful activity) was not valid evidence of a crime.

Further, in Jones, the officer doesn't have lawful authority to take a firearm and conduct further investigations upon said firearm (run the serial number) without some other reasonable articulable suspicion that it is in fact stolen. Probable cause is warranted before a criminal investigation can begin. This is basic US Jurisprudence.

Put another way, driving a car is not a crime, even if you must have a license to drive one. An officer CANNOT simply stop someone to determine if they are driving without a license unless they are checking everyone at a "road safetly checkpoint" and those stops are mandated as being VERY short in duration. They cannot pull you for an hour to "Check your license" a task that take a mere moment to confirm.

I think there's a hole in one of the exhaust pipes :(

This is something I undoubtedly do not have the money to deal with.

Just found this page, some very neat drawings of guns in various arrangements.

Sadly the full-size pictures appear to be missing from the page.

Still very neat, I wouldn't mind a few of them framed!

Gun control: Stealth agenda revealed by Attorney General Holder

General Holder testified: “The position of the Administration is that there should be a basis for law enforcement to share information about gun purchases.”

“... [It’s not] inconsistent to allow law enforcement agencies to share that kind of information, for that information to be retained and then to be shared by law enforcement.” “It seems incongruous to me that we would bar certain people from flying on airplanes because they are on the terrorist watch list and yet we would still allow them to posses weapons,” said Holder.

"to be retained and then to be shared"
That is illegal. This is the "slippery slope" that we were assured would never happen.

P.S. Obviously, Holder listens to Glenn Beck!

Rows of 7.62 mm bullets are shown, ready to be shot by Afghan National Army recruits as part of their daily training at the Kabul Military Training Center in Kabul, Afghanistan on July 19, 2009. A massive effort is underway to train thousands of new troops to join the fight against the vicious Taliban-led insurgency. But the task is hobbled by the lack of mentors and high levels of illiteracy among the recruits.
